Welcome, Heidi Sawyer!

HI, I AM NEW HERE!

I’m Heidi Sawyer, RCA’s newest therapist. I’m not only new here but also to Georgia! You see, being new somewhere isn’t always the easiest feat. It takes courage, motivation, and authenticity to jump into something new.

One step of being new somewhere is introducing yourself. Have you ever struggled with answering, “Who are you?” or “What do you do?”?  With over 15 years of counseling students and adults through life’s transitions, I recognize the importance of seeking and defining one’s identity and purpose in life. So, I’ll take the first step and share with you who I am and what I’m made to do!

WHO ARE YOU?

I am a native Floridian, who detoured to the great state of Texas for a few years before landing back on the east coast in Georgia. After graduating with a Master of Science in Professional Counseling, I have spent most of my career working with adolescents in ministry, counseling, and higher education. Most recently, I served as the Associate Director of the Career Center at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where I had the opportunity to help students explore their identity and purpose. With a Christian background as my foundation for counseling, I believe our identity is rooted in our Creator.

My goal in counseling, using a holistic and psychoeducational approach, is to help you gain insight and empower you to take steps to reach your fullest potential. I think Brenè Brown says it best when she states, “Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.” Counseling can be a great step to helping you become more authentic to show others your true self.

WHAT ARE YOU MADE FOR?

Understanding who you are helps you to better seek and understand your unique purpose in life. Like many, I take comfort in the words of Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I don’t know about you, but I am relieved to know that God already has a plan and that I don’t have to figure it all out on my own! God has also given us tools like assessments to help us learn more about ourselves. As we explore our unique personality traits, interests, abilities, and skills, themes are often revealed to guide us toward our purpose.  As a Christian therapist, my purpose is to support individuals as they seek and define their identity in Christ and their God-given purpose for their life. If you’re feeling unfulfilled or stuck in a season, I would love to help you plan with a purpose.

I believe that some of our greatest growth comes out of our hardest seasons in life. If you’re experiencing a challenging season, I consider it a privilege to hear your story and walk alongside you on your journey. As I have been warmly welcomed to my new home, I look forward to welcoming you to RCA.  I can be reached at Heidi@restorationcounselingatl.com or 678-534-3824, ext. 116, where you can leave a message in my confidential email or mailbox.
