Relationship Issues

Relationship challenges can create extreme difficulties in our lives and leave us feeling uncertain and overwhelmed. Marriage counseling can help. Conflict, infidelity, addiction, or general disconnection are some of the problems couples face. No matter the difficulties you are experiencing in your relationship, one of our therapists can help you walk through the challenges to determine the next steps to improve your relationship or save your marriage.

Communication or Conflict Management

We often bring negative communication or conflict resolution patterns with us from our families of origin.  In couples counseling, we can learn to develop positive skills to communicate regardless of the issues.  Similarly, couples can learn to manage their intense emotions and discover the root causes of their conflict patterns.

Infidelity

There are many types of infidelity, but all of them are difficult for a couple to manage.  We help couples work on the negative causes that contributed to infidelity in the marriage and help them through the process of reconciliation, providing guidance and clarity about the many difficult decisions that are related to these situations.

Sexual Addiction for Couples or Spouses of an Addict

We provide individual counseling for partners struggling with sexual addiction, and we provide support for the spouses of an addict, helping them understand the patterns of this addiction.  We help the couple work on communication, boundary setting, and accountability that will support the struggling relationship.

Marriage or Couples Enrichment

Many couples find themselves in a place where they have distanced themselves from one another.  Some struggle with years of bad patterns, and others struggle with believing they have fallen out of love with their partner.

We offer counseling services to help navigate these challenges and help couples find their way back to one another.  We offer assessments such as the Prepare/Enrich Marital Assessment and the Symbis Marital Assessment that ask couples a variety of questions and provide detailed reports offering suggestions about how couples might specifically repair difficult spots in their marriage.

Prepare/Enrich Marital Assessment

The Prepare/Enrich Marital Assessment is a faith-sensitive online assessment that couples take to improve and better understand their Christian marriage.  This test, separately taken by each spouse, provides a detailed report for the therapist about significant aspects of the couple’s marriage. This will help us target specific marital conflicts in our sessions.  The assessment goals include working through improving the couple’s relationship as we:

  • Explore strength and growth areas
  • Strengthen communication skills
  • Identify and manage major stressors
  • Resolve conflict using the Ten-Step Model
  • Develop a more balanced relationship
  • Improve relationships with in-laws
  • Explore family of origin issues
  • Discuss money issues such as financial planning and budgeting
  • Establish personal, couple, and family goals
  • Understand and appreciate personality differences

The assessment has a one-time online cost and can only be administered by and interpreted by a trained Prepare/Enrich facilitator.  We have several Christian counselors at Restoration Counseling of Atlanta who are Prepare/Enrich certified.
