Welcome, Ashley Skinner!

I am thrilled to be joining the team at Restoration Counseling of Atlanta. I come to RCA with many different experiences. I’ve lived overseas in Taiwan and in the city of Philadelphia. I’ve been a teacher, a stay-at-home mom, and I’ve worked in the fashion and technology industries. But my most meaningful training comes simply from being human. After experiencing my own struggles, I began to understand that mental health is not just about the mind, but that mind, body, and soul are all connected. I learned firsthand that along with caring for my mind, I needed to care for myself physically and spiritually. My own experiences in therapy are what led me here, to becoming a therapist.

I approach each person with curiosity. Everyone has a story filled with happiness and pain. I want to know your story. In a world that can be awfully loud, I create a space to be quiet, a place to be heard, and a non-judgmental atmosphere that allows you to candidly reflect on yourself, your circumstances, and your struggles. And as I’m listening to your story, I am taking in the whole person – mind, body, and soul.

MIND

We all love a good story. Whether it’s a best-selling novel or a show on Netflix, we are taking in stories all of the time. Not only are we watching/hearing/reading stories, we are also telling ourselves a story about our own life. I want to know how you are “story-ing” your life. What are the thoughts you have throughout the day?

BODY

Do you have a headache after a stressful day at work? Do you get butterflies in your stomach when you are nervous or excited? Our bodies are also telling us a story. They are constantly giving us indicators of our thoughts and feelings. I want to know how your story shows up physically.

SOUL

I want to know your story with God. What connects you to or disconnects you from God? Sometimes our stories and circumstances don’t allow for peace, but connection with God can move us towards peace. I want to help you find peace through God in your story. Please note that I will incorporate my specialization in Christian spiritual counseling to the extent that you would like.

I work with anxiety, depression, postpartum anxiety/depression, trauma, abuse, grief, self-esteem and life transitions. I take a multi-theory approach to counseling assessing and treating each individual according to his or her specific needs. Most importantly, I desire to meet you where you are, not where you think you should be. I would love to hear from you.
