Hello there! My name is Rebeca, and I am joining the Restoration Counseling of Georgia team from the Sunshine state. This year, my family moved from Athens, GA, to Florida to be close to family as my husband battles cancer. I am happy to be working again after an intense season of health issues. I can offer online sessions to clients living in the state of Georgia, specializing in trauma and PTSD.
How do you work?
I believe that healing is soul work. The most powerful way I know to work is to connect research, Biblical wisdom, and practical application. I do my best work to utilize evidence-based methods, which is what research shows to be effective. This includes biological facts (information about our brains, neurological systems) and I also lean on Biblical wisdom.
This combination of research/science, Biblical wisdom, and practical application enables me to learn from science and draw hope for healing from my faith. My Christian faith shapes how I understand pain and relationships. This ultimately gives me hope for healing and restoration. Because I’m trained in theology and psychotherapy I am able to confidently integrate a Christian worldview and faith-based interventions into the counseling process while observing best practices. I can offer empathy, relief, and help guide you toward the soul healing that happens through the gospel.
What unique experiences do you bring?
I am seminary-trained, and I’m a third-generation pastor’s kid who has lived overseas. My personal experiences and professional training has allowed me to work with people who have abuse or neglect in their stories. I’m especially interested in helping those who have suffered abuse by church leaders or authority figures.
I can provide counseling services in Portuguese and serve women in leadership, campus ministry, and missions.
Let’s talk about cancer.
We often take our physical health for granted until it’s gone. Whether you or a loved one have received a difficult medical diagnosis, you are not alone. As a therapist and caregiver for someone walking through cancer, I have the training, personal experiences, and deep compassion to work with those dealing with the pain and grief of medical issues such as cancer, chronic illness, and auto-immune disorders.
I work online with adults 18 and older struggling with panic, trauma, grief, processing medical diagnoses, and spiritual issues. Working with women in leadership, including pastors’ wives, church leaders, and missionaries is something else I enjoy. I specialize in a well-researched approach called EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), where I have seen people shift from knowing about truth and freedom to living out of truth and freedom.
