But God, in the Flood
Genesis 8:1
But God (Elohim ) remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided.
Noah’s Struggles
Noah had already endured many struggles while building the ark. He also had to deal with the sins of man going on around him. These sins were so great that God himself decided to wipe out humanity and his creation, except a few people. In this, we can see God’s grace in the statement, “But God remembered Noah.” He not only spared him and his family but humanity through Noah. We are recipients of that grace today.
- We need to consider the effects of sin around us today and see God’s grace in our salvation.
- We need to see how undeserving we are and thank God for His grace.
The story does not end there. “But God remembered Noah” goes forward.
How would you have felt?
Can you imagine being trapped with two of every kind of animal and having to do all that work? Can you imagine being in the ark with your family for over 150 days? And it rained for 40 days! Can you imagine?
How DO you feel?
How do you feel when you have a few simple snow days and cannot get out? How do you feel when it rains for a week. Our attitudes are rung out. We need God’s grace, and so did Noah. How do we cope with smells, sounds, no sun, moods (our own and those around us), hunger, confusion about the future, depression, conflict, and worry? God, through Scripture, has an answer for each of these issues, but it does not just take it away. God’s grace is sufficient to carry us and help us see His ways.
Where is God in our floods?
We all go through life and have struggles. Some are bigger than others. Some cut deeper, but God is still there. He knows where you have come from. God knows your pain. He knows where you are going. He understands what pain and problems are ahead. Can we rest in, “But God?” In His grace? What shall we do? Remember, Noah still had to obey and work.
Remember Noah. He struggled before, during, and after the flood. BUT God!
